More Progress by HMX

It has now been a week and Oppenheimer is doing well.  I still think he doesn’t like it much when we leave him alone, but I want to believe that he is getting better at coping with it.  There is still the occasional tickling here and there, but I think that is more of him marking his territory and less of a biological need to empty his bladder.  We are still waiting for his testicles to descend, but once they do and are removed, we’ll find out if this is the case or not, as I believe that particular habit has a tendency to go away post-operation.Given his progress, we have decided to try letting Oppie sleep in the bedroom with us.  Last night was the first time we tried it and I think he was a bit confused.  He has gotten used to sleeping in the living room next to the sofa and he hasn’t been allowed to spend much time in the bedroom.  Despite his bed being in there and us offering encouragement to lie down, he kept getting up and eventually left the room only to return at 7:30 when the alarm clock went off.  He had a small accident, which I believe was due to me not letting him out at 5:30 as he is used to as opposed to any malicious behavior because he had to sleep alone.

We’ll try again tonight and see how well that goes.  Today has been a very lazy day, and thankfully, Oppie has obliged us with being just as lazy.  We are now trying to get him comfortable with being on the patio where he can feel free to do his business without repercussion.   It is also nice that the temperatures have cooled down a bit and that today has been exceptionally windy.  Now I just need to teach him that ants aren’t his friends and offer continual encouragement that the patio isn’t a place of punishment.

In other news, our friends in Alaska have fallen in love with Annie from D & S Kennel.
